Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mosque
Al Mu'tarid, Al Ain
The Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mosque, also known as the "Al Ain Grand Mosque," is an iconic embodiment of Islamic architecture in Al Ain and throughout the UAE. Named in honour of the revered Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the late Ruler of Abu Dhabi, this mosque stands as the largest in Al Ain and one of the most magnificent in the country. Since opening its doors to the public in April 2021, visitors have been captivated by its vast dome, beautifully adorned with Quranic verses, spanning a remarkable 86 meters in diameter, gracefully sheltering the main prayer hall beneath.
Further exploration reveals the mosque's capacity to accommodate about 20,800 worshippers in indoor and outdoor spaces. The expansive structure covers a substantial area, with the built-up section alone stretching over 15,684 m^2. Four majestic minarets, each rising to 60 meters, punctuate its skyline, drawing inspiration from the historic Great Mosque of Samarra. Adjacent to this modern marvel, history lingers with a 1000-year-old mosque from the Islamic Golden Age. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan's heartfelt prayers, offered shortly after its inauguration, further enhance its significance. Visiting the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mosque offers a harmonious blend of rich history and architectural splendour.
